Iran discloses volume of wheat purchased in Khuzestan Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 31

More than 1.17 million tons of wheat have been purchased from farmers in Khuzestan Province from April 17 through May 30, Director General of Government Trading Corporation of Iran’s branch in Khuzestan Province Khodarahm Amirizadeh said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

The annual wheat consumption in Khuzestan province is 650,000-700,000 tons, and the rest volume is transported to other provinces of Iran, Amirizadeh said.

The director general added that 390,000 hectares of wheat were sown and wheat has been planted on dry-farming land in 160,000 hectares.

The company official did not disclose the value of purchased wheat and the amount of funds paid to farmers.

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting season is set between 25,000 rials (about 59 cents) and 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram of durum wheat in the current Iranian year.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and other products, are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
