Georgian Bolnisi municipality is expected to have 35,000 tons of potato harvest this year, Trend reports via the Ministry of of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Georgia Solomon Pavliashvili and Mayor of Bolnisi Municipality David Sherazadishvili visited a distribution point located in the village of Nakhiduri, Bolnisi municipality.

This point was opened in order to ensure safe and uninterrupted export of potatoes under the conditions of coronavirus pandemic.

Drivers who are citizens of foreign countries will be able to receive the documents necessary for the sale of products at the distribution point on the basis of the “one-window” principle.

“The projected potato harvest is 35,000 tons in the municipality of Bolnisi this year. It is important for us that farmers are able to freely collect, hand over and sell crops. We chose the village of Nakhiduri for the distribution point, because this is a convenient place for nearby villages in terms of logistics,” the deputy minister said.

According to him, because of the threat of coronavirus, it is important to limit the movement of drivers and citizens of foreign countries in areas and in gardens. All documents for export products will be issued on “one-window” principle. The movement of cars will be controlled.

Meanwhile, potato production in Georgia decreased by 12.2 percent in 2019 compared to 2018.

The average yield of potatoes in 2019 decreased by 7.2 percent compared to 2018.
