Azerbaijan's dairy export drops due to COVID-19 pandemic

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 9

By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:

Azerbaijan’s export of milk and dairy products dropped by 25 percent in May 2020, Chairman of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Milk and Dairy Products Samir Eyyubov told Trend.

The main reason for the decline in exports is that the main foreign market for Azerbaijan is Russia, in which there is now a decrease in demand for importing products and the solvency of the population, Eyyubov noted.

“There were no problems in export-import operations carried out in May 2020. However, the number of orders from Russian partners significantly decreased. At this stage, we expect improvement in this direction after the weakening of the quarantine regime in Russia,” he said.

“In 2019, the monthly income from export of dairy products from Azerbaijan amounted to $1.5 million, which is equal to $18 million for a year. Among Azerbaijani-made dairy products, condensed milk and cheese had the highest demand in 2019 abroad,” said the chairman.

Association of Producers and Exporters of Milk and Dairy Products supports the development of entrepreneurship in the field of milk and dairy production, applies new technologies in this area. Each legal and individual acting in the field of milk and dairy products, having provided the relevant documents, can become a member of the association.
