Uzbekistan's tobacco production continues to decline

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 18

Production of tobacco products continues to decline in Uzbekistan, Trend reports referring to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

During the first five months of 2020, production of tobacco products in Uzbekistan has decreased.

In the period from January through May, more than 4.1 billion cigarettes were produced - 425 million fewer than in the same period of 2019.

The volume of the Uzbek cigarette market has been declining by 1.5-2 percentage points annually for years. In the early 2000s it was estimated at 14 billion cigarettes a year, now it is less than 10 billion.

Meanwhile, it is planned to establish first Uzbek tobacco cluster in Urgut District of Samarkand region.

By 2025, it is planned to increase the production of tobacco raw materials to 1,400 tons and its export to $5.6 million.
