Uzbekistan plans to obtain permission to export dried pepper and lemons to China and grapes to India in the coming days, Head of the information service of the State Plant Quarantine Inspection Durdona Ochilova said, Trend reports referring to local Podrobno.uz News Agency.
“Since the beginning of this year, more than 842,000 tons of quarantine agricultural products were exported and 57,905 phytosanitary certificates were issued, while 1.8 million tons of the products were imported,” she said.
“From 21 million tons of fruits and vegetables grown annually in the country, only 15 percent is processed on an industrial scale, of which 7-8 percent is exported. Moreover, up to 30 percent of the products are lost due to improper collection, delivery and storage. At the same time, specialized processing enterprises use only 50-60 percent of available capacities,” Ochilova added.
In the coming days, Uzbekistan will open the first Central Quarantine Laboratory in the region to accelerate the export of fruits and vegetables from the country.
In order to speed up laboratory testing of products supplied for export, the regional state plant quarantine inspections will be provided with 10 additional mobile laboratories, and five more laboratories are to be commissioned.
