Iran's crippled auto industry hopes for price liberalization

TEHRAN, Iran, July 10

Trend:

Manufacturers of cars and car parts require price liberalization, and the stock exchange could be very helpful in this issue, said the secretary of the Iranian Specialized Manufactures of Auto Parts Association Arash Mohebinejad, Trend reports via Mehr News Agency.

The stock exchange could set the proper price through sale of vehicles and their parts, he said.

"The parliament can have a role in liberalizing prices the auto and auto part as well , while the government can provide incentives to auto part makers and setting a proper price for domestically produced basic material that can be helpful to the automakers," said Mohebinejad.

"One of the solutions for auto pricing is liberalizing the price by offering the vehicles at the stock exchange," he added.

"It has been forecast that auto part makers would face a $4.7 billion budget deficit in the current Iranian year (began March 20,2020)," said Mohebinejad.

"There was a request to liberalize prices on some 65 percent of the basic materials and parts for vehicles," he said.

"More than 700,000 individuals are currently working in auto industry. It includes 150,000 people in the auto making industry and 550,000 in auto part supply services," he added.

Mohebinejad went on to add that over over 90,000 cars weren't supplied to the market because they lack spare parts that had to be imported for official foreign currency.

He said these spare parts included air bags, computers, etc.
