Ferrero will purchase hazelnuts from the Georgian Hazelnut Growers Association (GHGA) processed at the drying and storage centers of the association and its partner companies, Trend reports with reference to EastFruit portal.
According to GHGA, the relevant agreement was concluded by the Association and Ferrero's subsidiary Agrigeorgia LLC.
Representatives of Agrigeorgia conducted training for the specialists of the drying and storage centers on quality standards and analysis methodology, in accordance with which the raw materials should be evaluated.
GHGA unites more than 25,000 hazelnut producers from various regions of Georgia, both individuals and legal entities, who own, in aggregate, over 30,000 hectares of hazelnut orchards. All members of the association, without exception, participate in the Hazelnut Harvest Rescue Program, implemented in cooperation with the state, aimed at protecting this crop from various pests and diseases.
The Georgian company Agrigeorgia today is the owner of the country's largest hazelnut orchards. The total area of her plantations located in the Samegrelo region (the main supplier of Georgian hazelnuts to the market) exceeds 4,000 hectares. As a member of the Georgian Hazelnut Producers Association, Agrigeorgia also purchases hazelnuts from local partner farmers. The company owns and operates a modern hazelnut drying and refinery.
