Turkish TAV Airports to create cargo multimodal hub in Kazakhstan’s Almaty

Turkish TAV Airports is planning to create cargo multimodal hub in Kazakhstan’s Almaty International Airport, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Trade and Integration.

On May 8, 2020 Turkey’s TAV Airports signed a share purchase agreement to buy Kazakhstan’s Almaty International Airport.

The negotiations were announced in Nov. 2019 as the consortium formed by Turkish TAV Airports (of which Groupe ADP owns 46.1 percent of the capital) and VPE Capital operating in Kazakhstan and Russia, started discussions with the owner of Kazakhstan’s Almaty International Airport regarding the airport’s potential acquisition.

The plans of Turkey’s TAV Airports for development of the Almaty International Airport were discussed during the meeting of Kazakhstan’s Minister of Trade and Integration Bakhyt Sultanov with representatives of TAV Group and Kazakhstan Infrastructure Fund C.V.

During parties discussed the issues of expanding the terminal capabilities of the Almaty airport, as well as the process of acquiring a 100-percen stake in Almaty International Airport JSC by the consortium which should be completed in the coming months.

Sultanov noted that Almaty airport is important both for the region and for the development of trade in Kazakhstan, expressing hope that investors will give impetus to the development of the trade and logistics hub in Almaty.

In turn, the Turkish side noted that it is very interested in implementing the project for creation of cargo multimodal hub in the airport.
