Russia’s Trade Ministry talks supply of medicines to Turkmenistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 21

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Russian manufacturers of medical equipment are promoting their products on the local market and take an active part in specialized exhibition events of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia told Trend.

"We would especially like to mention such companies as Triton-electronics LLC (resuscitation equipment) and Eidos-Medicine LLC (medical simulators)," the ministry added.

Meanwhile, the ministry noted that due to the coronavirus pandemic in the world, the focus of purchases has shifted primarily to personal protective equipment (medical protection kits, masks, protective screens, etc.) and disinfection prevention products (bactericidal lamps).

The ministry added that purchases of products for state needs are carried out in Turkmenistan only on a tender basis.

"The same applies to the purchase of medical equipment since local hospitals and clinics are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan," the ministry noted.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia told Trend that the growth of trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Russia was 68.8 percent in 2019 ($694.8 million) compared to 2018, and it increased by 3.8 times (to $518 million) from January through April 2020.

The main Russian export items to Turkmenistan include machinery, equipment and vehicles, chemical products, food and agricultural raw materials, metals, and products made from them, the ministry said.

"Imports are dominated by textiles, chemical industry products, and food," added Russian MFA.
