Iran improves trade balance of agricultural goods

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 23

Iran's foreign trade in agriculture and food sectors increased from a negative balance of $3.73 billion to a negative balance of $1.96 billion during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 20-August 21, 2020) compared to the same period last Iranian year, said Alimorad Sarafrazi, Head of the Center for Public Relations and International Affairs of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, Trend report citing the ministry.

According to Sarafrazi, this means that the trade balance has improved by $1.77 billion.

The official added that Iran exported 3.05 million tons of agricultural and food products worth $2.13 billion over five months.

“Iran's agricultural and food products are mainly exported to neighboring countries and Germany,” he noted.

Iran's agricultural and food products accounted for 19.9 percent of Iran's total exports.

In total, Iran exported about 38 million tons of non-oil products worth $10.7 billion within five months of the current Iranian year. Iran also imported 13.7 million tons of goods worth $13.8 billion.
