Azerbaijan raises seafood exports

Azerbaijan increased the export of fish and crustaceans, mollusks, and other aquatic dwellers in the first eight months of 2020, Trend reports citing the statistical bulletin of the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan.

From January through August 2020, Azerbaijan exported fish and crustaceans, mollusks, and other aquatic dwellers in the amount of $594,000, which 48 percent more compared to the same period of last year.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan’s import of fish and seafood rose by 3.7 percent or $431,000 over the year and amounted to over $11.9 million, the bulletin said.

The annual consumption of seafood per capita in Azerbaijan is only 2.5 kilograms, while the average annual consumption per capita in the world reaches 20.3 kilograms.

Currently, Azerbaijan Fish Farm is implementing several projects aimed at the development of aquaculture, including the fishery industry.

These projects cover various districts of Azerbaijan and aimed at the cultivation of 1,000 tons (portioned and fillet) of rainbow trout, as well as the production of 850 tons of sturgeon fish and 10 tons of black caviar by the end of 2020.
