In Georgian, Adjara farmers prepare for the citrus harvest, Trend reports via the EastFruit portal.

On October 22, a coordination headquarters was opened in the region, where farmers will be helped with the sale of tangerines.

This year in Adjara they plan to harvest 35,000-40,000 tons of citrus fruits. Mandarins, which are intended for sale abroad, will receive up to 30 sorting companies. The products will enter both traditional markets and Central Asian markets.

“According to our forecasts, the season will be successful. According to preliminary data, we already have a readiness to export up to ten thousand tons of citrus fruits,” said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Adjara Georgi Surmanidze at the opening of the coordination headquarters.

As for the non-standard tangerines, a subsidy program will begin on 25 November. Subsidies will be issued for industrial processing - 10 tetri (3.11 cents) per 1 kilogram from the state. Another 10 tetri will be paid by the processing enterprise.

This year, the Georgian industrial Asset Management Group joined the subsidy program. The Ministry of Agriculture says that the company's cannery will accept non-standard tangerines in unlimited quantities.

The coordination headquarters for the collection of tangerines will continue to work until February 1.

For the 2019 -2020 season in Adjara and Guria, about 50,000 tons of tangerines were harvested. Most of the Georgian citrus fruits were exported to Russia and Ukraine.
