Some 11,311 tons of hazelnuts worth $59.3 million were exported from Georgia from August 1 to November 29, 2020, Trend reports via the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.
In the reporting period, 3,060 tons of hazelnuts were exported, that is 37 percent more than in the same period of 2019. The export value increased by $18.7 million (46 percent).
Georgia's hazelnuts were mainly exported to EU markets, namely:
Germany (3,287 tons)
Italy (2,320 tons)
Czech Republic (594 tons)
Spain (352 tons)
Poland (320 tons)
Lithuania (311 tons)
Bulgaria (300 tons)
France (218 tons)
Greece (97 tons)
Estonia (88 tons)
Latvia (84 tons)
Luxembourg (60 tons)
Slovakia (64 tons)
Austria (22 tons)
Croatia ( 10 tons)
Georgia has improved its positions in the international hazelnut market, Merab Chitanava, chairman of the board of the Association of hazelnut producers said previously.
He also said that the association continues to work to increase the yield of hazelnuts.
“Further plans are to increase exports to 100,000 tons of hazelnuts from Georgia by 2023-2024, which will bring the country closer to second place,” Chitanava said.
