The REAP (Re-engineering Assessment Practices) project will promote introduction of sustainable production and consumption practices in the agricultural sector in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, Trend reports referring to the press service of The Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC).

A national consultative meeting on the REAP project was held with representatives of ministries and agencies of Uzbekistan and international organizations.

The project is funded by the European Union's SWITCH-Asia program, which supports countries' aspirations to move towards sustainable green economies with low environmental impact. The project will bring together the knowledge and experience of seven organizations from around the world cooperating in a consortium.

The main purpose of the meeting is to inform national partners and other interested parties about the project, as well as discuss issues of joint cooperation and coordination of project activities in Uzbekistan, which will be implemented in the country until March 2024.

The participants of the meeting will be presented the main tasks for the implementation of the project in Tajikistan, namely, the formation of a project coordination group from among interested stakeholders, the promotion of sustainable production and consumption (SPC) practices in agricultural production and processing throughout the supply chain.

The project also aims to build the capacity of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to find and apply innovative solutions to the challenges of natural resource scarcity and build systems to integrate SPC practices and value chains, and create an enabling environment across industry clusters and incentives and achievement of national development strategies.

The project consortium includes the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (project coordinator), Adelphi Research gGmbH (Germany), AREC - Association for the Promotion of Recycling and Environmental Protection in Austria, TERI - Institute of Energy and Resources of India, STENUM Asia Society for Sustainable Development (India), The National Association of Small and Medium Business of Tajikistan and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.
