Iran’s animal feed imports may decrease

A plan has been prepared in Iran for the imports of animal, poultry, and fish feed, Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran’s Grains and Essential Goods Department Faramak Aziz Karimi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

Aziz Karimi said that it is planned to reduce corn imports by about 3 million tons and compressed soybean imports by about 400,000 tons per year.

The director-general added that thus, the plan envisages the replacement of a number of domestically produced products, including millet, cottonseed meal, sesame, rapeseed, sunflower seeds with the mentioned products.

“The plan has been submitted to the Iranian government and the Plan and Budget Organization of Iran, but no final decision has been made,” he noted.

As reported, Iran imported 8.6 million tons of animal feed (barley, corn, and compressed soybean) during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through November 20, 2020). So, Iran imported 6.4 million tons of corn, 1.25 million tons of barley, and 945,000 tons of compressed soybeans.
