Iran and Afghanistan trade remains unchanged

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec.14

Iran and Afghanistan trade transactions in the current Iranian year (started March 20,2020) was equal to that of the last Iranian year (started March 21,2019), head of Iran-Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce Hossein Salimi told Trend.

"Trade transactions in the current Iranian year did not increase compared to the previous year, and during the COVID-19 spread the borders functioned with certain difficulties," he said.

"All borders were closed for 15 days and Iran 's trade transaction with Afghanistan would have increased, but in the current situation the trade transactions were equal to the last Iranian year (started March 21,2019)," he said.

"It was predicted that Iran would have $2.8 billion in joint trade with Afghanistan, and so far the joint trade was around $2 billion during the first nine months of the current Iranian year," he said.

"Iran's export shared most of this figure while the country has only imported $20 million worth of goods from Afghanistan, in addition to smuggled goods, Iran's total import volume was $40 to 50 million," he said.

"Iran's import from Afghanistan was agricultural products that faced quarantine and strict regulations from Iran's agriculture ministry," he said.

" Afghan businessmen have requested for increase of exports to Iran and solve the visa problems," he said.

"Iran also has demands that included forming joint Afghanistan and Iran Chamber of Commerce in Afghanistan and we received promises but the inauguration date has not been announced yet," he said.
