Weekly review of events in agricultural sector of Azerbaijan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 27

Trend:

This week, a new structure in the agricultural sector was created in the country - the Azerbaijan Silk Breeders Association, the Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan told Trend.

In addition, it became known this week that Azerbaijani farmers will be able to use the subsidies remaining on their cards from next year.

The Agrarian Credit and Development Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture noted that the farmer card must be active so that farmers can use the remaining funds on it next year: "If a farmer took a farm card opened in his name from a bank and activated it, then he can use the funds remaining on the card next year. If the card is not activated, the funds will be debited from it."

Also, the harvest of tobacco in Azerbaijan is nearing completion. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, farmers have collected 6,936 tons, and 6,520 tons of dry tobacco were handed over to the receiving points.

Proper observance of the rules of agrotechnical care by farmers this year has led to an increase in the average yield of tobacco, the ministry noted.

"At the end of last year, the average tobacco yield was 19.3 centners per hectare. Although the harvesting process has not yet been completed this year, the average yield is already higher than last year. Currently, the average yield for tobacco leaves is 22.1 centners, which is 2.8 centners more than last year. As the harvest continues, a further increase in the average yield is expected," the ministry said.

Also, at the beginning of the week, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Agriculture and a local IT company, SINAM LLC, signed a contract worth 143,439 manat ($84,375): "The winner of the tender for the purchase of technological equipment has been determined. By the decision of the tender commission, SINAM LLC became the winner."
