A Trout and Norwegian salmon fingerling farm "Guria Fish" was opened in the village of Kviriketi, Ozurgeti Municipality, Georgia, under the Affordable Agricultural Credit program, Trend reports via Georgian media.

Some 4 million lari ($1.2 million) has been invested, with 1.5 million lari ($456,645) in the affordable loan.

The trout farm employs 12 local residents. Products are sold on the local market at this stage.

According to Aleksandre Totochava, director of Guria Fish, an investment of 25 million euros will be made in the trout farm within the next 5 years. Totochava explains, that they plan farm expansion and growing of Norwegian salmon in the seawater conditions, for which construction of the pond begins in spring.

"This is a trout farm, we plan to expand and bring the trout and a Norwegian salmon into the seawater. Our trout are sold on the local market. The annual capacity is over 12 tons. The volume is still small, however, when we complete the project and grow Norwegian salmon, we plan to make their exports. As for the project, we plan to build a pond with seawater, where Norwegian salmon will grow. Currently, the pandemic has prevented us from carrying out the project, but we are slowly starting to work with a full capacity and we are constructing a pool. We are dealing with the sea and the weather should help us," Totochava said.

According to the director of the enterprise, finally, when the project is completed and the trout will weigh over 4-5 kg, they will start fish exports.

"We have to get a total of 1,000 tons of fish a year," Totochava said.
