Number of German enterprises in Uzbekistan increases in last four years

The number of German enterprises in Uzbekistan increased over the past four years, the First Deputy Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan (ISRS) Akramjon Nematov said addressing the participants of the Uzbek-German videoconference dedicated to the 29th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Trend reports citing ISIS.

The event, organized by ISRS together with the representative office of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Foundation in Central Asia, the Ambassador of Germany to Uzbekistan Gunther Overfeld, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Germany Nabijon Kasimov, the regional authorized representative of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Foundation in Central Asia Ronnie Heine, representatives of the deputy corps of Uzbekistan, experts of think tanks and educational institutions of the two countries.

According to Nematov, the German business is showing significant interest in investment cooperation with Uzbekistan.

The expert noted that in 2020 the volume of utilized German investments increased by 25 percent, exceeding the $700 million mark.

"An important moment was the opening last year in Tashkent of the offices of KfW German Development Bank and the Representative Office of the Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Germany and the Federal Association of Small and Medium Business," Nematov said.

Moreover, Nematov added that the growth of German enterprises in Uzbekistan has been observed over the past four years. "If in 2016 about 120 enterprises with the participation of German investors operated in Uzbekistan, to date their number has reached 193," he said.
