Kazakhstan eyes to build recycling plant for combined packaging

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Mar.11

Trend:

Kazakhstan’s 'ROP Operator LLC' has announced a tender for the selection of a company that will build a plant for processing packaging waste from combined materials in the country, Trend reports referring to a source in the company.

According to the source, the required capacity of the enterprise is the utilization of at least 10,000 tons of combined packaging and the release of finished products from cellulose-containing materials included in the packaging (at least 90 percent).

The tender proposals are required to include a description of the project, detailed costing and characteristics of the proposed technology. Half of the project cost will be invested by the company.

The deadline for applications is April 12, 2021.

The construction of the first plant for the recycling of packaging waste from composite materials is part of the strategy for the development of the recycling industry in Kazakhstan. Combined packaging is designed for liquid food products made of a composite material, the basis of which is cardboard.

The volume of combined packaging waste generation is over 20,000 tons per year. Due to the absence of enterprises for the collection and processing of waste from this packaging, at present the entire volume of this type of waste is disposed at landfills. The construction of the first recycling facility for combined packaging will improve the process. The 'ROP Operator' plans to develop infrastructure for the collection and processing of plastic waste and colored glass.

“The company has also launched EcoQolday project, a new model of financing the industry, this year,” the source further said. “The project is a platform for both existing entrepreneurs and those who want to start their own business in the direction of collection, processing, transportation and disposal of secondary raw materials in the form of packaging waste, this is waste paper, plastic (PET, LDPE, HDPE, PP) and container cullet.”

Since the launch of the EcoQolday project (from January 27, 2021), the system has processed applications for the collection and processing of 6,352 tons of secondary raw materials, and following the results, 4,720 tons of the materials have been utilized, summed up the source.
