Iran's exports via Jolfa border checkpoint increase

The exports of Iran through the Jolfa border checkpoint in the East Azerbaijan Province (northwestern Iran) increased by 1 percent in terms of value and 8 percent in terms of volume in the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), compared to the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through March 19, 2020), Director general of Jolfa Customs Office Mohammad Khalili said, Trend reports citing the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA).

According Khalili, 408,000 tons of goods worth $148 million were exported through the Jolfa border checkpoint last Iranian year.

Khalili added that the exported goods through the Jolfa border checkpoint were mainly light hydrocarbons, bitumen, ceramics, raisins, rubber products, steel and iron materials. These goods were exported to several countries, including Iraq, Turkey and Azerbaijan.

“Moreover, 240,000 tons of goods worth $536 million were imported through Jolfa customs in the last Iranian year. The imports increased by 13 percent in terms of value and 10 percent in terms of volume compared to the preceding year,” he said.

The director general emphasized that the imported goods were mainly tobacco products, wood materials, raw materials of manufacturing enterprises, spare parts for cars. These goods were mainly imported from Germany, China, Turkey, Italy and the United Arab Emirates.

Khalili noted that the revenues of Jolfa Customs Office increased by 23 percent over the last Iranian year compared to the preceding year. So, the revenues of customs office exceeded 3.43 trillion rials (about $81.8 million) last year.
