The price of wheat purchased from farmers in Iran has increased by 10,000 rials (about 23 cents) per kilogram, the Minister of Agriculture Jihad of Iran Kazem Khavazi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.
The minister noted that this step was taken in support of wheat farmers, taking into account the reduction of rainfall in the country.
Khavazi added that thus, 1 kg of wheat will be purchased from farmers in Iran for 50,000 rials (about $1.19).
Reportedly, the Government Trade Corporation of Iran (GTC) has purchased 127,000 tons of wheat worth more than 5 trillion rials (about $119 million) from farmers in Iran from March 31 to April 19. The guaranteed purchase of wheat from farmers in Iran will continue until November 21, 2021.
A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
It is forecasted that more than 9 million tons of wheat will be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2021, through March 20, 2022). The price of 1 kg of wheat was set up 40,000 rials (about 95 cents) for the current Iranian year, the report said.
Wheat has been planted on 6.15 million hectares of land in the current Iranian year. This is an increase of 2.3 percent compared to last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021).
