The cotton-growing industry and cotton production are actively developing in Turkmenistan, Trend reports.

In particular, the country plans to harvest 1.2 million tons of cotton in 2021, and 620,000 hectares of land will be allocated for crops.

This year, cotton sowing has already begun in the Akhal, Balkan, and Lebap regions of Turkmenistan, while sowing has already been completed in the Mary region. In particular, in the Mary region, cotton is planted on almost 180,000 hectares of land, and half of the area of the cotton wedge has seedlings.

Turkmenistan also buys cotton fibers. In 2021, the country plans to purchase 145,557 tons of cotton fiber, 8,500 tons of fine fiber, 200 tons of short-fiber cotton, and 200 tons of cotton wool.

Also, scientific work is underway to develop new varieties of cotton in Turkmenistan. So, earlier in the country, a new Ashgabat-140 variety of cotton was bred.

Various modern equipment is also used in the agricultural fields of Turkmenistan. Earlier, John Deere made another delivery of cotton harvesters to the country.

Also, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan and John Deere on the implementation of a digital electronic management system for agricultural machinery and equipment for the period 2020-2030.

In general, the state actively promotes the development of the cotton industry, encouraging domestic producers and the involvement of new local private structures in the cotton-growing activities.

Cotton growing also contributes to the development of the textile industry in Turkmenistan.

More than 60 percent of Turkmenistan's textile products were exported as of December 2020. The relevant products made from eco-friendly cotton were sent to Europe, Turkey, Russia, and China.

Thus, Turkmenistan plans to allocate more than $300 million for the implementation of more than 30 projects in the textile industry by 2025.

Thanks to the above-mentioned investments, the manufacture of commercial products in Turkmenistan will grow by 1.2 times over these years. Also, the implementation of the planned measures will allow the textile industry of Turkmenistan to carry out constant technical and technological re-equipment of existing and the creation of new high-tech industries.

Large investments will be directed not only to the expansion of existing capacities but also to the creation of more than 10 new production facilities on the basis of existing enterprises using modern technologies for the production of environmentally friendly products.

A lot of enterprises operate in the industry of Turkmenistan, including large textile complexes, cotton spinning, and weaving industries, clothing factories, silk processing enterprises, shoe factories, factories for the primary processing of leather and wool.
