Iran discloses volume of bony fish caught in Caspian Sea

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 12

Iran caught more than 11,061 tons of bony fish from the Caspian Sea from September 22, 2020, to April 9, 2021, the Director-General for Fishing Affairs of Iran Fisheries Organization, Mokhtar Akhondi said, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

Akhondi said that the volume of bony fish caught during the reporting period increased by 1 percent compared to the previous period. So, 10,900 tons of bony fish were caught from the Caspian Sea in the previous period.

“The bony fishing increased by about 23 percent in Golestan Province, and 14 percent in Gilan Provinces, while decreased by 14 percent in Mazandaran Province within the mentioned period,” he added.

The director-general noted that 5,413 tons of bony fish were caught in Gilan Province, 4,596 tons in Mazandaran Province, and 1,052 tons in Golestan Province.

According to him, about 56 percent of the caught fish was kutum, 18 percent – mullet and 14 percent – carp, and 12 percent – other species.
