BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 28

Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The Georgian government has decided to write off accumulated debt worth 1.5 million lari ($478,190) of 24 radio companies operating in country by the end of the year, said Minister of Economy Natia Turnava, Trend reports via Georgian media.

Turnava said that the revenues of radio companies had decreased dramatically due to the lack of advertisements during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The main source of income for radio companies is advertising. Economic activity was hampered in 2020, and of course, their revenues either stopped or decreased. Therefore, the government has decided to write off the debt they face", said Turnava.

Last week Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced that unpaid fines worth 76 million lari will be written off for 245,000 Georgian citizens and 344 legal entities for not wearing facemasks and violating isolation or quarantine.
