Iran launches new tobacco production plant in Zanjan Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 1

A plant on the production of tobacco products was put into operation in the Zanjan Province (western Iran) today on July 1, a member of the board of JTI Pars Company of Iran, Amin Habibi said, Trend reports citing Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade of Iran.

He made the remark today at an event dedicated to the launch of several facilities in Iran.

The member noted that a total of 7 trillion rials (about $167 million) has been spent on the plant. The plant will produce 15,000 tons of tobacco products per year.

Habibi added that 120 people were employed with the launch of this plant, and the number of employees of JTI Pars Company reached 2,000 people in total.

“The tobacco is grown on 800 hectares of land in Iran's Mazandaran, Golestan, Gilan, West Azerbaijan, and Kurdistan provinces to supply the company's raw materials,” he said.

Reportedly, JTI Pars Company of Iran was established in 2010 and was transferred to JTI Company of Japan in 2013. The JTI Pars Company has invested 13 trillion rials (about $309 million) and can produce 30 billion cigarettes per year.

On July 1, six facilities have been put into operation in 4 provinces of Iran. In this regard, 35.6 trillion rials (about $ 848 million) were spent and 881 people were employed.
