Food prices on rise in Kazakhstan

The prices of food products have increased in Kazakhstan by 1.7 percent in June 2021 compared to May 2021 and by 7.9 percent compared to June 2020, Trend reports citing Kazakhstan’s Statistics Committee.

The prices of non-food items increased by 0.8 percent compared to May 2021 and by 6.9 percent compared to June 2020, whereas prices of paid services grew by 0.7 percent compared to May 2021 and by 5.6 percent compared to June 2020.

An increase in prices was noted for carrots by 1.9 times, beet by 1.5 times, potatoes by 40.7 percent, sunflower oil by 5.6 percent, lamb by 2.7 percent, cereals by 1.8 percent, granulated sugar by 1.5 percent, poultry, horse meat by 1.4 percent, meat products by 1.1 percent, pasta, bread by 0.8 percent, fresh fruits, tea by 0.7 percent.

Mineral and drinking water rose in price by 1.3 percent, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages by 0.9 percent each. A decrease in prices was recorded for cucumbers by 33.2 percent, tomatoes by 14.2 percent, eggs by 13.9 percent, garlic by 11 percent, bananas by 6 percent, oranges by 2.9 percent.
