IRICA shares data on Iran’s apple exports

Iran exported 207,000 tons of apples worth $62.5 million during the first three months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through June 21, 2021), Spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

The spokesman noted that moreover, Iran imported 136,000 tons of bananas worth $92.8 million within the mentioned period.

According to the decision of Iran’s market regulation headquarters, the country imports bananas in exchange for apple exports. Thus, it is possible to import 1 kg of banana, in return every 3 kg of apples.

Latifi added that Iran exported 885,000 tons of apples worth $327 million to 27 countries over the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021).

“So, Iran exported apples worth $105 million to Iraq, worth $95.4 million to Russia, worth $51.7 million to Afghanistan, worth $26.6 million to India, worth $21.1 million to the UAE,” he said.

The official emphasized that Iranian apples were also exported to Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Oman, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Qatar, Pakistan, Kuwait, Georgia, Syria, Azerbaijan, Turkey and other countries.

Latifi said that Iran imported a total of 375,000 tons of bananas worth $255 million within last Iranian year.

“Iran imported bananas worth $130 million from Turkey, worth $54.3 million from India, worth $34 million from Ecuador, worth $33.8 million from the Philippines, worth $2.7 million from Pakistan, worth $433,000 from the UAE, worth $48,000 from Russia and worth $35,000 from Vietnam,” he added.
