By Nargiz Sadikhova – Trend:

The construction of the innovative fish-growing complex has been kicked off in Kazakhstan’s city of Kapchagay, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources.

The innovative complex will be concerned with the growth of barramundi fish and its capacity is expected to be 10,000 tons of product a year.

The value of investments into the project is expected to reach 67 billion tenge ($156.1 million) and 300 new jobs will be created as a result.

Kazakhstan is taking measures to develop the fish-growing area. In this regard, the government has approved a long-term program for the development of fisheries, where it is planned to grow 270,000 tons of fish per year by 2030.

The existing measures of state support in the form of subsidizing the fishing industry have been expanded, and conditions have been created for the development of related areas in fish farming.

Kazakhstan plans to increase the volume of fish farming through the use of potentially suitable reservoirs for fish farming, as well as the construction of new industrial fish farms.

It is industrial fish farms that make it possible to achieve the volumes of fish breeding planned by the program since their design capacities are significant. Moreover, such industrial farms use water-saving technologies. The implementation of this project will help replace imports of exotic fish species and at the same time increase export volumes. In general, the project will contribute to solving the tasks of the long-term program for the development of fisheries.
