Iran’s IRICA shares data on condition of trade with Afghanistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 2

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Despite a number of incidents in Afghanistan, Iran's trade with this country is growing, Spokesman for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Rouhollah Latifi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

According to Latifi, for example, 48 percent of trade between the two countries is carried out through the Mahirud border checkpoint in the South Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran). However, this figure was about 30 percent until last year.

“In addition, trade through the Dogharoon border checkpoint in the Razavi Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran) has recently dropped by about 50 percent. However, 200 trucks pass through this border customs every day,” he added.

The spokesman noted that also, Iran's trade through the Milak border checkpoint in the Sistan and Baluchestan Province (south-eastern Iran) has declined due to the conflict in Afghanistan.

Latifi stressed that despite a number of problems, trade via the Gomshad border checkpoint in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan Province continues. At present, 50 trucks pass through this border checkpoint daily.

“Iran exported 1.8 million tons of goods worth $728 million to Afghanistan during the first four months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through July 22, 2021). Iran's exports to Afghanistan increased by 2 percent in terms of value and decreased by 15 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year. Afghanistan ranks fifth in Iran's exports,” he said.
