Azerbaijan shares data on number of economically active citizens

The economically active population reached 5.29 million people in Azerbaijan as of Aug.1, 2021, while the share of the employed population made up 4.95 million people, Trend reports with reference to the Azerbaijani State Statistical Committee.

According to the committee, the number of employees reached 1.69 million people, including 908,100 people in the state sector of the economy, 782,500 people in the non-state sector. Moreover, 32,000 people were employed in the oil and gas sector of the economy, and over 1.6 million people in the non-oil sector.

At the same time, 23.8 percent of employees at enterprises and organizations were employed in the sectors of production, including 7.6 percent in construction, 7.5 percent in the processing industry, 3.4 percent in agriculture, forestry and fisheries, 1.9 percent in the mining industry, 1.9 percent in the water supply, waste treatment and recycling sector, 1.5 percent in the production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam.

Some 19.4 percent out of the total number of people, involved in the service sector, work in the education sector, 18.5 percent – in the field of trade and repair of vehicles, 8.2 percent – in the field of health care and social services.

Some 6.6 percent were employed in the public administration and defense sector, as well as in the field of social security, 5.2 percent - in the sector rendering the administrative and support services, 4.4 percent - in transport and warehousing, 3.5 percent are engaged in the professional, scientific-technical activity.

Moreover, 3.2 percent of employees work in the field of recreation, entertainment and arts, 1.8 percent - in information and communications, 1.7 percent - in finance and insurance and 1.5 percent in hospitality and catering.

The remaining 1.1 percent worked in the field of services in other sectors and 0.9 percent in real estate.

Azerbaijan's GDP increased by 2.7 percent from January through July 2021 compared to the same period of last year and reached 47.2 billion manat ($27.7 billion).
