Revenue from tomato export in Georgia up

Georgia exported 3,000 tons of tomatoes worth $2.8 million in 7 months of 2021, Trend reports with reference to the National Statistical Office of Georgia (Geostat).

Over the same period in 2020, 1,700 tons of tomatoes for $1.6 million were exported from Georgia. Accordingly, tomato export revenue increased by 75 percent over the same period last year.

According to Geostat, the main consumer of Georgian tomatoes this year is Russia with 2,300 tons ($ 2.5 million). Tomatoes were also exported to Armenia, Hong Kong, Latvia, Singapore, and Ukraine.

From January through July 2021, Georgia's foreign trade turnover amounted to $7.48 billion, which is 21.7 percent more than the same period last year.

Georgia's exports amounted to $2.27 billion (an increase of 27.8 percent), and imports - $5.20 billion (an increase of 19.3 percent).

The trade balance remained negative during this period - at the level of $2.93 billion.
