Georgia expresses its readiness to deepen economic relations with the US, said Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava, Trend reports referring to the Georgian Ministry of Economy.
She made the remark at the meeting with US congressmen in Georgia.
During the meeting, it was noted that the US is a permanent strategic partner of Georgia and the Georgian side will do everything possible to bring this partnership to a qualitatively new level.
Turnava also stressed the readiness of the Georgian side to expand and deepen economic relations with the US, as well as develop trade and investment ties. In addition, they discussed the prospects for American investments and business in Georgia. At the meeting, the Georgian side once again raised the issue of the possibility of concluding a free trade agreement with the US and appealed to the congressmen for support at the beginning of the negotiation process.
Turnava expressed special gratitude to the US for its active support and assistance to various projects in the economic sector of Georgia, noting that US support programs play an important role in the development of Georgia.
“We had a good opportunity to talk with the US congressmen about the prospects for economic relations between the US and Georgia. It is very important that America, as our strategic partner, including in the economic sphere, has been helping us a lot in recent years. This is our constant, very strong supporter and a truly strategic partner,” Turnava said.
According to her, during the meeting it was also emphasized that, despite the coronavirus pandemic, trade between the US and Georgia increased by 21 percent in the first seven months of this year. It was noted that today about 300 American companies are quite successfully represented on the Georgian market.
“However, this is not enough, we can do a lot, and, of course, with the support of the US government, with the support of the American people, we will do our best to attract more American companies, American investments to Georgia. trade partners of Georgia, as well as in terms of investments,” Turnava said.
