Agricultural production increases in Azerbaijan

The volume of agricultural production in Azerbaijan in actual prices increased by 383.1 million manat ($225.3 million), or 6.7 percent from January through August 2021, compared to the same period of 2020, Trend reports citing the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan.

Over the year, the given figure rose from 5.7 to 6.1 billion manat ($3.35-3.58 billion).

During this period, production in the livestock sector increased on annual basis from 2.8 to about 2.9 billion manat ($1.64-$1.7 billion) by 95.4 million manat ($56.1 million), or 3.4 percent, and in crop production - by 287.7 million manat ($169.2 million) or 10 percent (from 2.9 to 3.2 billion manat ($1.7-1.88 billion).

The country continues to harvest and as of September 1, grain and leguminous crops were harvested by 212,300 tons, or 7.3 percent more compared to the same period of last year (from 2.915 to 3.13 million tons).

As of September 1, 610,500 hectares were sown with autumn and spring crops. From 572,300 hectares, 1,885 million tons of wheat were harvested, from 11,900 hectares – 66,600 tons of corn.

According to the report, for the first 8 months of 2021, the farms harvested 828,100 tons of potatoes (an increase of 9.3 percent over the year) and 1.4 million tons of vegetables (an increase of 6.1 percent over the year), 431,700 tons of fruits and berries (growth for the year by 8.4 percent), 968.8 tons of green tea leaves (growth for the year by 27.6 percent).

During the reporting period, the country produced 353,900 tons of meat (an increase of 3.2 percent on annual basis), 1.43 million tons of milk (an increase of 1.6 percent), 1.27 billion eggs (a decrease of 4.1 percent) and 15,500 tons of wool (an increase of 0.1 percent).
