Uzbekistan may sell shares of Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Complex

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 29

By Fakhri Vakilov – Trend:

Uzbekistan may sell 10 percent of Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Complex (MMC) shares in 2022, as part of the privatization by the government, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Jamshid Kuchkarov said, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

Kuchkarov made the remark on September 29 at the Economic Forum in Tashkent.

The event, with the support of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, is being attended by about 300 representatives of the government of Uzbekistan, international organizations and businesses.

Kuchkarov noted that the privatization of the Navoi MMC is a very difficult task, which requires the involvement of international consultants.

In January 2019, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved the reorganization of Navoi MMC and the creation of separate state assets on its basis - State Enterprise Navoiuran for the processing of uranium and JSC Navoi MMC for the production of gold and silver.

Navoi MMC is one of the largest gold producers in Central Asia. Gold production at the plant in recent years has been about 80 tons, given that the total production of this metal in the country is 100 tons.
