Iran has increased the price set for the purchase of tea leaves from farmers under a guarantee in the country for the current season (September 23, 2021 through September 22, 2022), the Chairman of the Iran Tea Organization, Habib Jahansaz told reporters, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.
Jahansaz said that the decision was made by the Iranian Council for Support and Pricing Agricultural Products.
The chairman added that according to the decision, the price of 1 kg of first-grade tea leaves increased by 37.5 percent compared to last season and amounted to 92,000 rials (about $2.19).
“Meanwhile, the price of 1 kg of second-grade tea leaves was increased by 48 percent compared to last season to 71,000 rials (about $1.69).
According to Jahansaz, 25 percent of tea leaves in the current season will be purchased by the Government Trade Corporation (GTC), while 75 percent – by tea factories.
In the last season, the price of 1kg of first-grade tea leaves was 66,900 rials (about $1.59), and the second-grade tea leaves – 44,800 rials (about $1.06).
In Iran, some products such as rice, sugar beet, wheat and tea are purchased from farmers by the Government Trade Corporation (GTC) of Iran under a guarantee and paid for in installments.
