The National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) has accelerated drilling operations in Iran's Ahvaz, Marun and Lali oil fields in cooperation with the Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters, an official of the NIDC Reza Mehdipour said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

The official said that the mentioned oil fields are located in the territory of the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC). The drilling operations are carried out within the framework of the program to maintain and increase extraction from 28 oil reservoirs.

Mehdipour added that the NIDC has already completed the drilling of well No. 198 in the Marun field and No. 25 in the Lali field. In addition, the drilling of development wells at each of the mentioned fields has been started.

According to him, the company has also drilled and improved well No. 44 in the Marun field with ‘Fath-81’ drilling rig, which is currently being relocated to another well in the field. The company is also carrying out drilling operations in the Marun field with the ‘Fath-91’ drilling rig.

Iran is implementing 27 contracts to maintain and increase extraction from 28 oil reservoirs of the NISOC. The total value of these contracts is estimated at $4.6 billion. The goal is to extract about 600,000 barrels of oil per day.

The Ahvaz oil field, which is located in the Ahvaz county of Khuzestan Province (south-western Iran) is considered Iran’s largest oil field.

The field contains more than 65 billion barrels of oil, of which 37 billion barrels can be extracted. Iran extracts 800,000 barrels of oil and 13 million cubic meters of gas per day from the Ahvaz oil field.

The Marun oil field is Iran's third largest oil field and is located in the Khuzestan Province (southwestern Iran). The field contains about 46 billion barrels of crude oil, of which 22 billion barrels can be extracted. It is estimated that Iran extracts daily more than 500,000 barrels of crude oil from the field.
