BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 9. Overall, 1.46 million tons of fish and fishery products are planned to be farmed and caught in Iran for the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), Iranian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jihad and the Chairman of Iran Fisheries Organization Hossein Hosseini said at a press conference in Tehran, Trend reports citing IRNA.

The deputy minister noted that about 71 percent of the mentioned plan has been fulfilled during the first 9 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through December 21, 2022).

Hosseini also added that in the next few years, Iran’s annual both fishing and fish farming is planned to be reached 2.6 million tons, which is about a two-fold increase.

“Meanwhile, about 1.26 million tons of fish and related products were cultivated and caught in Iran in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022). Of this, 557,000 tons were cultivated and 752,000 tons were caught,” he said.

The chairman also pointed out that 61,000 tons of shrimp were grown at 950 facilities in the country during 9 months.

According to him, 17 tons of sturgeon caviar and 4,000 tons of sturgeon meat were produced in the country in 9 months.

As reported, Iran caught a total of 9,714 tons of various bony fish in the Caspian Sea during the last fishing season (October 7, 2021, through April 20, 2022) in the country. This is a decrease of approximately 14 percent compared to the previous season. So, the figure stood at 11,061 tons in the previous season.
