BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 6. Iran intends to develop small and large ports in the Makran region of Sistan and Baluchistan Province in the southeast of the country, Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Head of the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), Ali Akbar Safaei said, Trend reports.
“In order to develop small and large ports in the Makran coastal region, contracts worth 200 trillion rials (about $4.76 billion) are expected to be signed with the private sector in the current year (March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024),” he added.
According to Safaei, so far, the private sector has invested 110 trillion rials (about $2.62 billion) in the ports of Makran coastal region.
The deputy minister noted that a number of steps are being taken for foreign investors to make investments in the ports of this region, and it is hoped that these steps will soon yield positive results.
The Makran coastal region of Iran covers 7 counties in Sistan and Baluchistan province. There are a number of large and small ports in this region. One of the main ports in the region is Chabahar port.
