BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 7. Iran’s Yazd Province, located in the center of the country, has been a major contributor to the country’s non-oil exports in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2023), Director General of Yazd Province Customs Office Mohammad Hossein Salmani said, Trend reports.
Salmani noted that the province exported 1.5 million tons of non-oil products worth $239 million in this period. This is an impressive achievement considering various economic challenges and the US sanctions against Iran.
The director general added that the main goods that Yazd Province exported were ceramics, various types of oxides, iron and steel, glassware, and construction materials.
According to him, these products are in high demand in the regional and international markets, especially in neighboring countries. The main destinations that Yazd Province exported to were Iraq, the UAE, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Oman, Indonesia, and Türkiye.
Yazd Province has a rich history and culture, as well as a diverse and resilient economy. The province is known for its production of textiles, carpets, handicrafts, jewelry, sweets, and dried fruits. It is also home to many industrial zones and complexes that produce various types of metals, chemicals, machinery, and equipment.
Also, the province has a strategic location that connects it to the north-south and east-west corridors of Iran and beyond. The province has also invested in developing its infrastructure, such as roads, railways, airports, and customs facilities, to facilitate its trade with other countries.
Yazd Province aims to increase its non-oil exports in the second half of the year by expanding its product portfolio, enhancing its quality standards, diversifying its markets, and strengthening its trade relations with its partners.
Overall, Iran exported 67.7 million tons of non-oil products worth over $24.1 billion in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2023). This is an increase of 2.62 percent in value and a decrease of 29 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.
