BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 10. Iran's potato exports grew by 169 percent in value and 154 percent in volume for the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2023), compared to the same period last year, said Rouhollah Latifi, an official of the Central Union of Rural and Agricultural Cooperatives of Iran, Trend reports.

Within nine months, Iran exported potatoes worth $72.1 million, weighing 196,000 tons, Latifi stated.

In the corresponding period of the previous Iranian year, Iran's potato exports stood at 77,400 tons worth $26.8 million, he added.

The official also pointed out that Iranian potatoes were exported to 14 countries, including Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Azerbaijan, the UAE, and other countries.

Latifi noted that in total, 105,000 tons of potatoes worth about $40 million were exported from Iran in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023).

Iran’s efforts to boost its non-oil exports amid the US sanctions that limit its oil sales. Iran’s non-oil exports include all products except crude oil, mazut, and white oil.

The latest data from IRICA (Islamic Republic of Iran's Customs Administration) shows that Iran exported about 102 million tons of non-oil products worth $36.4 billion in the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2023). This represents a 0.68 percent drop in value but a 26.5 percent rise in volume compared to the same period last year.
