BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 15. Iran’s North Khorasan Province, located in the north-east of the country, exported $116 million worth of non-oil products weighing 386,000 tons in the first 9 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2023), said Hossein Hajibegloo, the chairman for Industry, Mine, and Trade Organization of the province, Trend reports.
According to Hajibegloo, the value of the non-oil exports from the province fell by 32 percent, while the volume rose by 39 percent, compared to the same period last year.
He added that petrochemical products made up 85 percent of the exports from the province. The main reason for the decline in the value of the non-oil exports from the province was the fall in the price of petrochemical products in global markets.
The official clarified that if the value of each ton of petrochemical products exported from North Khorasan Province for the first 8 months of last year was $650-$850, this year, it stood at $280-$300.
The chairman further stated that steel, cement, aluminum, saffron and other products were also exported from the province.
Hajibegloo revealed that the main destinations for the province’s exports were Iraq, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Russia, and others.
Iran’s efforts to boost its non-oil exports amid the US sanctions that limit its oil sales. Iran’s non-oil exports include all products except crude oil, mazut, and white oil.
The latest data from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) shows that Iran exported about 102 million tons of non-oil products worth $36.4 billion in the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2023). This represents a 0.68 percent drop in value but a 26.5 percent rise in volume compared to the same period last year.
