Import of goods to Iran’s Golestan Province doubles

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 24. Iran’s Golestan Province, located in the north-east of the country, saw a remarkable increase in its imports for the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through February 19, 2024), Director General of Golestan Province Customs Office Shahriar Shahriari said, Trend reports.

Shahriari mentioned that the province’s imports for the reporting period grew by 112 percent in value and 103 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.

Shahriari stated that the province imported 75,000 tons of goods worth $139 million in 11 months.

He also said that the main import items were soybean oil, various polymers, sodium sulfate, fabrics, cotton fibers, and more.

According to Shahriari, the mentioned goods came from 25 different countries, such as China, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and the UK.

In 11 months, the province imported goods worth $46.3 million from China alone, the director general added.

The latest data from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) shows that Iran's overall imports for 10 months amounted to nearly 32.7 million tons worth $54.3 billion, representing an 11.6 percent increase in value and a 6-percent increase in volume from the same period last Iranian year.

In general, Iran mainly focuses on the import of essential products needed by the country and applies certain restrictions on the import of goods produced domestically.
