BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27. The governments of Bulgaria and Azerbaijan decided to hold a meeting of the joint commission on trade and economic cooperation on June 4 in Baku, Trend reports via the Bulgarian media.

Previously, such a meeting was scheduled for early July.

“Bulgarian companies will take part in Baku Energy Week (June 4-6), and with their participation, a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on trade and economic cooperation will be held on June 4,” the Bulgarian media said.

The postponement of the IGC may be due to the early parliamentary election in Bulgaria on June 9 to form a government.

To note, President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev paid an official visit to Baku on May 8.

During this visit, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Radev signed the “Joint Declaration on Strengthening Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Bulgaria”.

Besides, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan Elmin Mammadov and member of the Board of “Bulgaria Air” JSC Hristo Todorov signed the “Code Share Agreement between Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC and Bulgaria Air JSC.”

Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan Elmin Mammadov and Caretaker Minister of Energy of Bulgaria Vladimir Malinov signed the “Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Innovation and Growth of the Republic of Bulgaria on cooperation in the field of technological innovation.”

Additionally, Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Asarel-Medet JSC Dimitar Tsotsorkov signed the “Memorandum of Understanding between the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic and Asarel Investment EAD”.

During the round table of Azerbaijani and Bulgarian companies held in Baku on May 8, Malinov mentioned that in addition to the most important energy cooperation (Azerbaijan has been selling gas to Bulgaria since 2021 and plans to help it with gasification of small towns), Bulgaria proposes to establish cooperation in the defense sector, construction, transport and tourism.

Meanwhile, AZAL flights to Sofia will begin operating twice weekly beginning June 7.
