COTTON HARVEST STARTS IN SOME REGIONS LATE AUG

Cotton harvest will start in some regions of the country in late August, while complex harvest will be carried out in September, Rovshan Aliyev, the representative of the Agriculture Ministry, told Trend.

According to Aliyev, irrigation and struggle with quarantine pests at the fields are underway. Besides, preparations on reconstruction and repair of receive points in the regions are carried out. A total of 112,900 hectares of area has been sown this year.

Touching upon the cotton production, Aliyev noted that they had no exact figure. “It will be known after implementation of check-up by specialist in the regions to study the level of production,” the representative of the Ministry said.

Cotton is grown in the 20 regions of Azerbaijan, particularly, the zones Salyan-Mugan, Karabakh and Shirvan. 77,700 hectares of area was sown in 2004.
