In the first three years, the volume of the transportation in the Baku Tbilisi Akhalkalaki Kars railway may increase up to 3-5m tones, the First Deputy Transport Minister Musa Panahov told, Trend reports. This volume may rise up to 8m in the future.

Mainly dry loads metal, coal, coloured metal are transported through this route. Oil and oil products are also transported partially. According to Panahov, market researches show that at present, there are some problems with the cargo transportations through the Black Sea port. The transportation by rail takes less money and possesses high potential.

At present, Georgian ports cannot completely provide the transportation of all cargo . If Georgia has such opportunities, the volume of the transportation may rise, Panahov said. For this reason, the volume of the oil and oil products which will be transported through Baku Tbilisi Akhalkalaki Kars route will not affect the transportation volume of Georgian ports.
