Trend E.Huseynly, S.Babayeva / The Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, Aydin Aliyev, said on 10 May that the new Customs Code of Azerbaijan will be adopted in 2007. According to him, the Committee carries out work at the level of a special working group to bring the Code into conformity with international principles. "A number of specialists work on the Code," he said. Aliyev said that in the near future the Code will be sent to the international organizations for their consideration.
Modernization of the legislative base in accordance with international standards has been envisaged within the project of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and European Union on modernization of the customs services.
According to the foreign experts, the new code will significantly affect the integration of Azerbaijan into Europe, ensure transparency, efficiency of attracting foreign investments into the country and facilitate the customs procedures.
The first Customs Code of Azerbaijan was adopted in 1997.
