Azerbaijan and Georgia Likely to Sign Long-term Gas Agreement

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Aliyev, V.Sharifov / The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is likely to discuss with its Georgian counterparts the issue of signing of a long-term contract on natural gas delivery at the end of 2007, a senior official of SOCAR said on 20 September.

A source at the Azerbaijani Government said that export to Georgia can be increased to 8mln cu m of gas a day.

Now Azerbaijani gas from the Shah Deniz field and fuel sold under contract with Azerigas is delivered to Georgia. The contract, however, expires at the end of September.

The SOCAR official said that at the beginning of October, SOCAR is likely to conclude a contract with Georgia on gas delivery by December. The volume of SOCAR's gas deliveries to Georgia will exceed 1mln cu m of gas a day.
