Korea Offers Azerbaijan to Build Tankers with Deadweight of 60,000 tons

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend I.Khalilova / The Korean company STX, a general sub-contractor for the construction of a new ship-building plant in Azerbaijan, offered to build in Azerbaijan tankers with the deadweight of up to 60,000 tons, Anar Akhundov, the Executive Director of the Azerbaijan Investment Company (AIC) said on 27 December.

"Deadweight of tankers is being clarified," Akhundov said

Major customer of tankers can be the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), CASPAR and Kazakhstan, which has plans to export its oil to the world markets via Azerbaijan.

"The opinion by customers will be taken into consideration," Akhundov said.

The plant with the average cost of $400mln will be built in Alat settlement.

The presentation of the project was postponed from December to late January or early February due to development of additional commentary for the appraisal document, designed by STX.

It is planned to build all types of new vessels, needed for Azerbaijan, including dry cargo, tankers, yachts, passenger vessels, at the new plant

The enterprise will be established on the basis of four ship-building plants exiting in the country.
