Georgia, Tbilisi, Jan. 6/ Trend , N. Kirtskhalia/
Georgia refutes recent reports in the Russian media that the country is ready to resume natural gas supplies to South Ossetia. A Georgian ministry official informed Trend on Jan. 6 that this is impossible as the pipeline incurred serious damages in the Russia-controlled territory of South Ossetia.
During a meeting with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Gazprom Director Aleksey Miller said Georgia is prepared to resume gas supplies to South Ossetia.
Georgia cut gas supplies to South Ossetia in August when Russian troops entered the province. Georgia proposed international monitoring to gauge the integrity of the pipeline. Russia refused the offer.
Georgia's parliament said that in addition to technical issues, legislation also hinders companies from operating in South Ossetia. Consequently, the issue must be solved within a legal framework.
